Accountable for the successful management of all state income tax audits, state UTP' s, tax planning strategies and a wide array of state income tax matters, responsibilities include:
 
Oversight of state income tax audits.  Responsible for all aspects of state income tax audits.  Pre-audit analysis, IDR' s, audit work paper review, recommend settlement solutions and pursue necessary appeal steps.  Draft appeal protests and support litigation efforts. The goal of this position is to effectively manage multiple audits, defend against audit assessments; resolve audits while mitigating tax risks and minimizing 3rd party consulting/appeal fees.
 
Manage State Uncertain Tax Position (UTP) process.  Identify and recommend new state UTP' s as part of the quarterly state tax provision process.  Maintain spreadsheets necessary to support state tax reserves.  Ensure state UTP' s are properly measured, reported, documented and updated for triggering events.  UTP' s are maintained in an OneSource UTP software application.
 
Review complex unitary, combined and separate company state returns.  Ensure accuracy of returns, positions are well documented and disclosures and exceptions are reflected on returns.  Must consider transfer pricing impact.
 
Recommend and implement state tax planning strategies.  Research tax statutes, regulations and case law to minimize state taxes and to develop filing positions. Planning and research are critical aspects of this position. Special projects as assigned.
 
Monitor state tax legislation, court cases, and rulings impacting current and deferred state taxes.  Must interpret regulatory and statutory language and measure impact to current and deferred taxes as triggering events occur.
 
Assist with acquisitions and dispositions as necessary.
 
Manage other components of the quarterly state tax provision process, including tax attributes and valuation allowances. Compliant with SOX controls and accurately accounting for income taxes. 
 
Effective interaction with tax directors, tax managers and senior tax staff is imperative.

 
 
Qualifications
Minimum of ten years of corporate state tax and/or public accounting experience.
 
B.S., Masters in Taxation preferred. JD a plus.
Proficiency in OneSource tax software products.
 
Excellent Excel skills required.
 
Strong communication, organization and interpersonal skills required.
 
Must work in a team and process improvement oriented environment.
